Handicap Placards & Parking

firefoxHi again. Today I am going off on handicap spots, the placards and the people who use them when they really do not need to.

Before I go on, I will say that I have absolutely no problems with people who actually deserve to use the spots or placards. To this date, I have never used said placards just to get a better spot. For those wondering, I am technically disabled from my military service. I even have the placard still in the envelope in the desk at home after getting it 10 years ago. Someday I may use it, but for now, it will stay where it is.

I will start off against the placards. I see a lot of people who pull into the spots in front of the store and then they jump out of their car in exercise clothes and run into either our store or better yet, Baskin Robins. We all know that in the area, there are a lot of relatives who are doctors or in the medical field. As such, it is easy for them to get the placards. There are times I just want to walk out and flatten one of their tires. Except that it would probably deny someone who actually needs the spot.

The 2nd part of this is more or less the same as the 1st. This time it is the lack of respect those people have. There are two different type of handicap parking. One is for people who usually have wheelchairs. The other is for everyone else in the group. These 2 spaces are separated by that wide margin of blue lines. If you have a wheelchair, you will usually exit the vehicle on the passengers side. This means you need the extra space to ensure you do not dent the car next to you. The other space, typically on the left (looking at the top of the spots), are for people who have an issue that allows them the closer spaces.

If you honestly need the space, then please use it. But if you have the placard because you once had a medical issue (bunyon removal) then do the right thing and find another space.

As always, please tip your server on the way out, and remember that the views expressed are not necesarilly the views of the establishment. More than likely these views are polar opposites.

Until the next time,
